(to submit your registration form - which enters your personal
profile onto our translator/localizer database)
In addition to filling in our application form, please read about
what we offer to translators/localizers below, and
what we ask from
them in return.
What we offer to translators/localizers:
- ADVERTISING: When we advertise internationally
through our website, to western North America through press-releases, and to our local
(western British Columbia) market through telephone
YELLOW-PAGE ads, your services are also being
advertised indirectly. Our expert translators/localizers comprise our company's
greatest asset and though we don't promote individual translators, we will
definitely promote all of you to the best of our ability!
- DATABASE:
When you submit our
translator/localizer registration form
your profile is permanently entered into our database, from which we will choose the most
qualified person for any project on which we are bidding. We may
submit information from your English-language CV to the potential
customer. When we do this, we remove references to your contact
information such as your e-mail address, address and phone number, but
all other information is left as-is.
- HELP WITH EDITING
YOUR ENGLISH:
If you translate for us from your native language into English and
your English is not perfect, we have an English editor who can 'polish'
your output as long as your meaning is clear. This editor may
occasionally need to clarify a word or phrase with you. Willingness
to work with the editor on this in a timely fashion is critical to getting
return work from us.
- A COMMITMENT: If you do a job for
us, we will pay you fairly and promptly.
What we ask of all our translators/localizers:
- Fill out our
translator/localizer registration form.
- Send us your
ENGLISH CV (or résumé). You can either
provide a hyperlink to it on the registration
form OR send it to us by
e-mail as an attached file. If you
are unsure as to what information to include, click here for a suggested
translator English CV/résumé
format.
- HONEST
appraisal of your own abilities along with a continual attempt to
improve them
- COMMITMENT to providing customers with the best quality
work of which you are capable, and within your estimated time-frame
- Check your
E-MAIL
at least once per day and reply to all messages from us or our
customers within 24 hours if possible (especially important if a
potential customer asks us to include a sample translation of their text)
- REGISTER with www.proz.com (including proz.com's great
KudoZ program on our website).
Provide them with high-quality evidence of your skill and commitment.
You should provide Proz.com with a copy of your CV (or
résumé) and with other
information they may ask for (photo, samples, etc.). Those with higher
numbers of Proz "KudoZ points" will definitely be preferred over
those who do not participate in this program, as a high number is an
indication of both your skill and commitment.
-
VOLUNTEER WORK (optional) Occasionally non-profit groups
approach us for free or low cost translation (example: helping a group of
quilt-makers in a Zambian village develop a multi-lingual e-commerce
site). If you want to be considered for this sort of work, please
e-mail us.
Be sure to document your participation in volunteer translation work on your
résumé Also, if you are aware of
a group like this that could use our help, let us know.
THANKS VERY MUCH - HAPPY TRANSLATING!
